Don’t throw paper Tricolour flags on ground after public events. The National Flag is a symbol of the Nation’s respect and pride. It should not be treated like any other ordinary cloth or paper material, and it certainly shouldn’t be thrown on the ground after public events. Selling flags made of paper and plastic is a recent trend, but this is wrong. People joyfully purchase these flags out of a sense of national pride, yet the following day we see the flags being abandoned on the streets, in trash cans, and elsewhere. People fail to recognize the fact that they are disrespecting the flag by allowing this to happen.

It is everyone’s responsibility to treat our national flag with respect. In accordance with the Flag Code of India, you are now requested to make sure that only paper flags are used by the general public on the occasions of significant national, cultural, and sporting events, and that no such flags are discarded or thrown to the ground afterwards. Such flags must be destroyed privately in accordance with the flag’s dignity.
